The Governors Project

Special Art Commission from North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue

In 2011, the meeting of the Southern Governors’ Association was hosted by North Carolina at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville. NC Governor Beverly Perdue commissioned Elizabeth Ellison to paint watercolors of the mountains of Western North Carolina to be given as gifts to the attending governors.

Governor Perdue wrote Elizabeth, “It is so wonderful that the governors at the Southern Governors” Association meeting went home carrying a vision of North Carolina. Your paintings are just beautiful and I’m so pleased that I also have one to enjoy.”

In an interview, Elizabeth stated that she was very honored to have been selected and really appreciates the framing work which Charles Heath of Heath Creations, Bryson City, did to enhance the beauty of the paintings.
