Mile High In The Smokies – 30" x 22" watercolor, $2,500

This is a view into the Smokies near the mile high marker on the Balsam Gap Road. It is actually across from the Masonic Temple Camp which is a marvel of stonework and worth a short stroll to visit. I find the view into the mountains breathtaking. It seems you can see forever – mountains and more mountains.

Seasons Change — 24" x 18" watercolor, $1,800

In the spring, color changes occur and foliage ripens at the lower elevations and climbs to decorate the highest ridges. So exciting after the wet, sometimes dreary few months of winter.

And Then There Is Grandfather Mountain — 22" x 15" watercolor, $1,800

As I paint Grandfather Mountain, I imagine all the legends that this mountain has inspired, and no wonder — when you see Grandfather thrusting to the sky, seemingly breaking through lesser terrain, it is awe-inspiring and I feel many spirits must dwell there — a sacred place, I am sure.

I love to imagine a woodland with only the trees and understory. What a great place for all the little and big creatures who live or travel there.

The formation of these mountains created many lovely areas such as alongside my horse trail. I feel as if I am looking into a cathedral of trees. They lean on each side of the draw and seem to invite me into their midst – a visual representation of pattern, worship and protection.

The Reed Pond — 32" x 22" watercolor, $2,500

The style of Walter Anderson, whom I greatly admire seemed the perfect way to paint this image of an immature green-backed heron, which I captured on camera a few years ago. I love the way the heron blends into its surroundings — natural camouflage.

That Waterfall — 25.5" x 36" mixed media on handmade papers (rush, hibiscus, iris) collaged on handmade cotton rag paper, $2,800

This painting expresses how I feel when I experience such a force of nature. There are many images – fish, mink, birds, human – layered into the rock structure of the waterfall. It is a spiritual world that reflects the feeling I have around such a place – the power of the water, the odor and the slight uneasiness – but overall the awe. I am always humbled.

Spring is such an exciting time. I often shrug off flower painting, but then when the first ones in our garden bloom I cannot resist celebrating the event in my studio.

The Gallery is open (usually) Tuesday - Sunday from about 10:30 am - 4:00 pm. It is best to call to make sure I am there, especially if you are coming from out of town. I am happy to schedule an appointment at almost anytime as I live close by and LinaBlue and I are happy to have visitors.
